Austin navigated the subway system and got us to the closest subway station to the Camino. I led him several blocks west and was about to tell him to look for yellow arrows but before I could say it, the first one appeared.
The route was incredibly well marked and we took off. I wanted out of Madrid fast and within an hour we were looking back at the towers from mowed wheat fields.
Austin was great the first 10 kilometers, started to look pained the next 6, really wanted to lay down the last 2. We were fighting scattered rain and I set a very brisk pace to ensure we got a bed. We managed to stop for lunch and still get to city hall before 2.
The room is free, it is two beds in a room with s desk and a bathroom/ shower next door.
Rules are simple, security locks up tight at 930 pm and you better be gone by 6 am.
Austin passed out as soon as we got into the room, he has been up for 24 hours and was not used to the walking. I took a shower, took a nap, went shopping and got stuff for tomorrow's breakfast and lunch, found us cheap place for dinner and am making these notes for the blog watching him sleep.
Day 1 - 20 kilometers - 4:10
Tomorrow the goal is to get to monzenares el real. I am going to slow down the pace but see how far he can make it if we leave here by 6 am.

I hope Austin can make the whole camino. :)
